Shaping Short Term Insurance

Obtaining Short-term insurance over the phone can feel tedious and obstructive. Standard Bank wanted to create a more enjoyable app experience for their customers

My Role

To simplify the end-to-end experience of obtaining a short-term insurance quote

Conversational Form

After my experience helping to create Liberty's insurance chatbot, I opted for a more flexible, less linear approach. I wanted it to be simple for user's to navigate backwards and forwards through questions and I wanted it to feel like an easy conversation.

Keep It Simple

By asking one question per screen and using instructional gifs to convey instructions

Drive Tracking

I designed for a feature that uses the user's device velocity and location data to track driving and monitor for incidents or speeding

Make The Wait Times More Enjoyable

I experimented with more interesting loading animations as a way to make the wait time a little more pleasing

Research

On this project, usability testing was done by an external research company. I would brief requirements, provide prototypes of the user journeys and define participant requirements

Reflections

Working at Standard Bank on another short-term insurance product allowed me to apply some of the lessons I'd learned while working on the Liberty chatbot. Working with a mature brand like Standard Bankshowed me the value of a well-defined design library and well-documented design guidelines
